Individual approval (Dutch market)

We are regularly asked how to deal with the individual approval of a trailer. The following procedure applies to vehicles that are not designated by the RDW (RijksDienst Wegverkeer or Centre for Vehicle Technology and Information) as “special trailers”.

The person applying for the vehicle registration certificate makes an appointment for inspection at one of the RDW vehicle inspection centres. Then the applicant sends the application card, with the applicable enclosures, to the vehicle inspection centre. The documents must be received at the vehicle inspection centre at least 5 workdays before the actual inspection at the vehicle inspection centre. The following documents must be submitted as enclosures:

  • Guarantee declaration of maximum masses. Drawings do not need to be submitted;
  • Approved brake diagram;
  • Approval of test report of the drawbar (if applicable);
  • Approval of test report of the rear underrun device (if applicable).

Before the actual inspection can take place, it is determined on the basis of documents whether the vehicle is eligible for registration. Among other thing, the request is checked for completeness and it is determined whether the appended partial approvals are valid and applicable.

If the design is approved, the agreed registration number survey is evaluated in the RDW vehicle inspection centre as to whether the vehicle has been manufactured according to the submitted documents and whether the vehicle meets the legal requirements. RDW will also check the chassis number, or place it if necessary.

HESTOCON can put together the necessary documents for you.
