Homologation

The approval (or homologation) of vehicles and vehicle parts can be divided into EU and national approvals, and also in type and individual approvals.

An individual approval applies to one unique vehicle. This approval form is used for vehicles where only one or just a few are to be built. The same procedure must be followed for each vehicle, even if they are identical.

A type approval is requested for a larger production of a vehicle type. Within the same type approval a large variation of models, dimensions and masses can be inserted.

An EU (system) approval can be requested for virtually all vehicle parts, which, in a number of cases, is even required on the basis of national of european legislation.

For the application of EU vehicle and system approvals, a declaration of Conformity of Production must first be issued. The advantage of an EU approval is that you can use it in all EU member states.
